On Saturday, I met two of my best Austin girlfriends in Waco for the day to get together and catch up! Waco is situated between Austin and Dallas, so it’s a great halfway point for us to meet up. In fact, Riley and I met in Waco for our first date! The most difficult part about moving has easily been being far away from the amazing community of friends that I had in Austin. It was so refreshing and heart-filling to spend the day with some of my favorite Austin ladies!
We met a little before noon at Cracker Barrel for brunch. I, as always, ordered chicken fried chicken, while Camille and Rachel ordered breakfast items. We ended up sitting around the table for over three hours! After brunch, we spent a couple of minutes meandering around the gift shop, and then loaded up into my car to head over to Magnolia Market.
In case you don’t know, Magnolia Market is owned by Chip and Joanna Gaines, who star in the very popular HGTV show, “Fixer Upper.” They are a true power couple who love Jesus and own a business flipping old homes–and their work is absolutely fabulous. Magnolia Market is a big store to purchase items in their style (farmhouse chic) as well as a large food truck courtyard and community garden. The weather was gorgeous, so we ended up spending most of the day sitting together at a picnic table in the Texas sunshine!
The market was absolutely lovely. Crowded, but lovely. Joanna has gorgeous taste and it was reflected in each item that was sold.
There was some beautiful, simple jewelry for sale. I loved the displays in Magnolia–this was live moss holding the jewelry!
Camille spotted Joanna’s mom, so we snagged a photo with her! She was so very sweet and kind!
Outside, there are two massive silos. So, so cool! (This is why Magnolia Market is often referred to as “The Silos.”)
This is located inside the community garden. I have never seen a functional garden that’s so gorgeous!
In the food truck courtyard, there was a crepe stand. Camille and I made a beeline for it and were not at all disappointed. I ordered a strawberry, banana, and Nutella crepe and she chose just strawberry and Nutella. Both were topped with cinnamon whipped cream. Just so delicious!
After many more hours in the sunshine (it was 75 degrees! #YES #texaswinter), we headed back to the car to find somewhere to eat for dinner. I had never been, but both Camille and Rachel recommended Fazoli’s for its low-key, inexpensive Italian food and great breadsticks. We loved eating too many breadsticks and discussing Making a Murderer theories over big bowls of pasta.
After dinner, sadly, we had to say our goodbyes. (Clearly after another hour and a half chatting in the car!) I’m so thankful for these sweet friends and for an adorable city like Waco that makes for a wonderful meeting spot! Here’s to girlfriends, crepes, sunshine, and cheap Italian food!

I’m a huge Fixer Upper fan and am just dying to visit the Silos! Unfortunately, since I’m in the Northeast, I haven’t yet been able to. It’s so nice that you can use Waco as a meeting place with friends! 🙂
