“Using Food As Medicine” Online Course Review

July 10, 2015 by Blair Lamb Filed Under: Real Food, Sponsored Post

Using Food As Medicine Course Review | Blairblogs.com

Several months ago, after reading some of my blog posts, Jennifer Lannon from Real Food Heals reached out to me about taking her “Using Food As Medicine” online course and reviewing it for my readers. I was immediately interested, especially after she explained that the course would be 20 video lessons, covering everything from detoxification strategies to healing infertility naturally to battling anxiety or depression with food and supplements.

On a brief side note, and before I begin my review, I would like to mention that Jennifer is one of the kindest and most patient internet friends I’ve yet to “meet.” She asked me to review this course back in April; clearly it is creeping up on mid-July. Jennifer has been completely gentle and patient with me, so understanding of my life circumstances right now. You will get a sense of her warm spirit through her videos; I want to attest to the fact that she has the same calming presence when working with her. Now, that’s the kind of woman I want steering me away from sugar! 😉

Now, on to the review. This course is really, really thorough. I loved watching each lesson and learning about the way my body works, how it breaks down food, and what I can eat or not eat to feel my best and nourish my body. Jennifer is a Certified Holistic Nutritionist & FDN Practitioner and has been working in the health and wellness field for 12 years, and it’s obvious that she knows what she’s talking about. You can read more about her here.

Course Syllabus

As I mentioned, the course goes over a whole lot. Here is the syllabus, which you can find here with more details:

Lesson 1- Introduction

Lesson 2- Most Common Nutrient Deficiencies

Lesson 3- Natural Immunity Boosters

Lesson 4- Cancer Prevention

Lesson 5- Healthy Digestion

Lesson 6- Gut Health

Lesson 7- Heart Health

Lesson 8- Love Your Liver

Lesson 9- Gall Bladder Health

Lesson 10- Detoxification Strategies

Lesson 11- Obesity, Weight Loss & Popular Diets

Lesson 12- Diabetes

Lesson 13- Heal From Chronic Pain Naturally

Lesson 14- Healing Infertility Naturally

Lesson 15- Navigating Autoimmunity

Lesson 16- Hormonal Health

Lesson 17- Thyroid Health

Lesson 18- Adrenal Fatigue

Lesson 19- Anxiety

Lesson 20- Depression

I really enjoyed this entire course. I would consider myself pretty well educated about nutrition, but I learned a whole lot taking it.

It was very grounding for me during this season of life. Being engaged, leaving my job, moving, and getting married has definitely taken a toll on my health. I’ve had many sleepless nights and have grabbed cheap food on-the-go more than I’d like to admit. Being educated about why it’s so important to nourish my body has been very helpful.

My Favorite Lessons

My favorite lessons were lesson two, Most Common Nutritional Deficiencies, lesson four, Cancer Prevention, lesson five, Healthy Digestion, lesson 10, Detoxification Strategies, and lesson 16, Hormonal Health.

When I was listening to lesson two, Most Common Nutritional Deficiencies, I grabbed a piece of paper and wrote “Magnesium deficiency?” on it. Jennifer’s description of a woman with magnesium deficiency matched what I was experiencing exactly. The next day, I purchased a magnesium supplement. It has literally been life-changing for me. I sleep much more soundly, my menstrual cramps are significantly lessened, I have more energy, fewer headaches, and less anxiety. Wow!

Cancer Prevention was so, so interesting to me as well. I had no knowledge of the science behind cancer, and was fascinated to learn some of it as it relates to food and nutrition. This lesson made me toss any and all artificial sweeteners from my cabinets immediately! I think back on what I learned in this lesson often.

Lesson five, Healthy Digestion, was amazing as well. I have read articles and blog posts about leaky gut syndrome but never understood it, until this lesson. It makes so much sense now! I have always struggled with digestive health (literally, since I was an infant), so the information learned in this lesson was very helpful.

I enjoyed Detoxification Strategies very much. I’ve wanted to do a detox for a while now, but have always felt overwhelmed and a little intimidated. Jennifer breaks down detoxification strategies in a very consumable way, no pun intended! She gave me great ideas, recipes, and several easy detox practices to rid my body of toxins daily, not necessarily in one big cleanse (though she talks about that, too). So interesting!

Finally, I loved Hormonal Health, which is lesson 16. I have known that my hormones are out of balance for several years now, and have certainly taken steps towards balancing them, but never had a full game plan. Until now! Jennifer gave me 10 easy-to-follow steps to heal my hormones and explained each thoroughly. Empowerment is a beautiful thing, isn’t it?

Interested?

If you have a few hours this summer and you’re interested in learning more about using food as medicine, this course may be a great option for you. It’s broken down into easy-to-digest capsules of information, so you can easily watch a lesson here and there, revisiting as needed.

“Using Food As Medicine” is a great way to glean important information from a Certified Nutrition Consultant without spending hundreds of dollars. You can access the course here for 20% off!-Jennifer charges $125/hour for an individual consult, so all of this information for $79 is a great deal! If you have any questions about my experience taking the course, please comment below! I’d be happy to answer them.
